8) Volendam, North Holland.

"Volendam is a town in North Holland in the Netherlands, which was then dammed and used for land reclamation. Farmers and local fishermen settled there, forming the new community of Vollendam, which literally meant something like 'Filled dam'."

"Its a popular tourist attraction in the Netherlands, well-known for its old fishing boats and the traditional clothing still worn by some residents. The women's costume of Volendam, with its high, pointed bonnet, is one of the most recognizable of the Dutch traditional costumes."

Enjoy our tour of the town :

We were told that this was the place where we could get good souvenirs at reasonable prices so we bought quite a few..hehe..

This were just a sample of "few".. :-D

  10. Thomas,

You are right, in some parts of the country that we passed through, if I'm not mistaken the canals were higher than the road.
