Weight : Gain n Loss

When our boss said that he wanted to take us out for lunch yesterday, I suggested we go to this Minang's (or was it Padang's???) restaurant in KL b'cos another staff had just mentioned that she liked it when we went there d last time..hehehe..

mmmm....

mmmmm....

and this was the main reason I "dared" to suggest to my boss of where to have our lunch..hahaha...

(my fav, avocado juice)

I tried making it at home once but I learned then that I had to "master" d skill of choosing the ripe/good avocados first...and till now I have yet to drink the yummy homemade one...hehehe...

haaa...now I realised why....was upset earlier this morning after I weighed myself and found that I hadn't make any progress on my diet...no wonder that so far no one around me commented that I look slimmer...ha ha ha...

Looking at websites for tips...

Quick Weight Loss Tips #3 - Drink up.

“If people want to keep their nutrients in balance, they need to drink plenty of plain, unflavored water every day,” says Judy Dodd, R.D., past president of the American Dietetic Association. Water not only acts as a solvent for many vitamins and minerals but also is responsible for carrying nutrients into and wastes out of cells, so the body functions properly. As a rule of thumb, you should drink a half-ounce of water for every pound of body weight daily, unless you’re very active, in which case you should increase your water intake to two-thirds of an ounce per pound of body weight daily. So if you weigh 100 pounds, you should drink 50 ounces of water a day as a minimum

Drink Water!

Did you know that about 75% of the human body is composed of water? And did you know that if you ask most people what they would like to drink water would be on a last choice? Because your body is composed of about 75% of water that means that it needs water to function optimally. This is one of the easiest tips to implement yet most people neglect it. If you just start drinking more water every day it will go a long way in speeding up you fat loss. Researchers in Germany have found that people who drank water had an increase in the amount of calories they brunt per day.

How much water should I drink?

I suggest that you start with I glass a day and then increase at your own pace until you reach ten glasses per day. Once you have achieved ten glasses per day I recommend you follow Dr. Batmanghelidj, MD water consumption recommendations: Determine your body weight in pounds, divide it by two and drink that many in ounces of water each day. For example, a 200lbs person would need to drink 100 ounces of water each day.

I'll try that..and I especially have to try liking unflavored drink.

Birthdays

I like knowing the birth dates of family and friends...(not necessarily the years..hehe :-)..)..not because of wanting to celebrate it but because then I at least have a special reason to contact them on that day..

mmm...I lost quite a few reminders in my handphone after I changed to a new one so I'm sorry to have missed some birthdays...I'll try to put it back..can't remember it all, can I?..(do I need to take gingko, Habs?..hehe..).

5th was my brother Awi's birthday...n with him being in K.Kinabalu, we seldom have the chance to meet but I'd sent him some wishes and prayers that everything would be ok with him..may he always be blessed by Allah SWT...amiin..

(It was Sarah's ~ his daughter~ birthday on the 9th as well..)

******

The day before Yatie's birthday, I tried to "book" her lunch hour for the next day ~ we didn't see each other as much as we'd like too, so had always try to treat each other on our birthdays (thou not always on time..hehe...)..but i was told that she had been on medical leave for a few days...ohhh..

(luckily it was still in good condition~i got lost going to her house
and i was not hungry enough..haha..)

Two days later I managed to visit her at her house, bringing the cake with the hope that it would cheer her up...and it turned out that was the only cake she got for her birthday!..was i a mind reader or what..haha...

anyway, we had fun catching up..eating the cake, posing...and she gave me permission to put her photo in my blog..(cos I told her that so far I don't put mine here...hehehehe...)

(she gave me TWO slices!..hehe..)

Thank u sis for being a good friend/sister...I treasure the times we spent in school, so glad that I got to know you then and that we have managed to keep in touch all these while.

mmmm...we have yet to fix the date for that lunch...May be we can arrange with Kak Has as well? :-)

******

Kak Has dear...hope u have had a wonderful birthday...I didn't forget but I was late in contacting u...bz with the planned trip to Kuale that Saturday...mmm...I still cant beat u...you'd always try to wish me at midnight...hehehe...

[I still remember the time when Habsah n I were being "helpful"(hahaha..) to our "new" seniors (u n Kak June) in school... but ever since then, u have been so sweet and thotful...such a great pleasure to know you..thank u...and please stay as sweet as u always do...]

Timely reminder in a poem...

Yesterday whilst I was cleaning my files at the office, I found this poem that Aimy had e-mailed years earlier and I'd printed it as a reminder...

And tonight, as I was just about to do the posting on it, i received one sms from a friend...to inform me that her family member was critically ill, n when i called her up, she said that he was actually involved in an accident yesterday and at the moment is hospitalised...

...I pray for the best...

This poem may be was just some ideas that came out of the author, but it served as reminder about making the time for your family and friends...

Around The Corner
By Charles Hanson Towne

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.

And I never see my old friends face,
For life is a swift and terrible race,
He knows I like him just as well,
As in the days when I rang his bell.

And he rang mine but we were younger then,
And now we are busy, tired men.
Tired of playing a foolish game,
Tired of trying to make a name.

"Tomorrow" I say! "I will call on Jim
Just to show that I'm thinking of him",
But tomorrow comes and tomorrow goes,
And distance between us grows and grows.

Around the corner, yet miles away,
"Here's a telegram sir," "Jim died today."
And that's what we get and deserve in the end.
Around the corner, a vanished friend.

I hope I won't make myself too busy to keep in touch...

Trip to Kuale...

We got to know that this was supposed to be an outing weekend for Nazeem, the first for this year...how time flies, he was just back from school holidays few weeks ago...

(leaving kampung earlier this month)

(with his 3 sisters)

...n so, instead of him coming over, we decided to go and stay there..luckily we managed to get rooms at the Sg. Perak Resort.

....
(buffet lunch at the resort; Nazeem n his friend, Hafiz)

Earlier on Friday when Nazeem contacted me and asked if we could go to Ipoh, my first thot was.."oh, oh"..I felt nervous as I'd never been there...so i quickly googled about the city..hehehe...

Ha ha ha...I guessed the reason why he wanted to go there..and true enough...he wanted to go n buy doughnuts at Big Apple!...but what a trip, we got lost, entered wrong side of Ipoh, round and round we went, asking and got wrong directions..and finally managed to go to Ipoh Parade..only to be told that the shop was at Jaya Jusco...a long way from there..waaaaaaaaa....

......
(at the Parade)

By that time it was already quite late and we had to rush back to Kuala Kangsar so I said to Nazeem that we'd try again next time..We started the journey back and looked for the highway sign...but there it was, Jaya Jusco!. :-)..

...not wanting to disappoint him, we detoured a bit and parked the car at the parking lot whilst he went inside with Hafiz...and they came back a short while later with grins on their faces!...mmmm...the short stopover was worth it...:-)

...was so tired last nite that I was already "out" b4 10!..hehehe...

....(breakfast)

Sent them back to the hostel this morning by 11.30am...and half an hour later, we made our move back to KL..Alhamdulillah reached home safely by 3pm...

However, before we left "Kuale" we waited till this one particular vendor opened his business...cendol!

..mmm...nice...hehehe.

Mother's Love

"I still love him just as I have before," she cried.

"None of us can ever hate him as he had always been a loving son and brother. He was always willing to sacrifice anything to ensure our happiness."

Excerpt from : http://www.nst.com.my/Current_News/NST/articles/8gcc/Article/index_html

(re ~ Gemencheh Murder: Grieving mum vows to stand by her son ~ 2010/01/22 ~ By Heidi Foo, Darshini Balan and Siti Nor Amirah Abu Bakar)

I cried when i read the article in NST this morning, about a mum grieving and vowing to stand by her son who was charged for the murder of four of his family members earlier this month...

...I felt such a love of a mother to her child, even thou she lost her parents-in-law, husband and daughter...(may their souls rest in peace...amiin)

When i switched to the next paper, there was this news about a daughter not acknowledging her mum after she got married and left her hometown...and after some years, the mother had to borrow from relatives and friends for the tickets just so she could look for her in KL..

but instead she was disappointed with the treatment that she got from her loved one.

again my tears dropped...

I'm not commenting on the case as i do not know the whole scenario but b'cos lately there had been so many news about children abandoning their parents that i feel so sad...

but everytime i read about something like this, i always pray that my siblings n i will treat and look after our mum properly..offer prayers for her and also for our beloved arwah father..

InsyaAllah I'l do my best.

Update : diet and food craving

I miss updating my blogs. Have been feeling tired lately that I'd fallen asleep at early hours and as soon as my head hit the pillow..but tonite, am attempting to get back to "normal" hours..hope i can finish doing at least this post...hehehe..

A friend said that my tiredness might be due to my diet.. Diet?..what diet...ohhh..the on and off again diet...haha...i've been attempting it (err...seriously..) for the past few weeks but the more i try the more i have cravings to have this n that...

mmm...all those fried rice, fried noodles, cheese on toast, cheese sandwiches, chicken soto, roasted chicken, beef stew...etc, etc, etc...including two slices of this birthday "cheese" cake when i went to a friend's house the other day!

basically, i just love to be in the kitchen at the moment..n also love trying new recipes... :-)

..the other day, bought chick peas, and while I was boiling it, smsed Amal to ask for hummus recipe b'cos I really like the one she made when we had our gathering at her house a couple of months back.

but alas, didn't have the tahini paste (@ sesame paste), the key ingredient to make it. So instead, we ate the peas with fresh dessicated coconut (with sugar and pinch of salt) :-)

Help...my cravings are getting worse!...

...yesterday it was fried rice n i made it for breakfast AND dinner!..haha..

...and today it was pancakes... n since i'd never make it from scratch before, switched on the internet at around 7 am and check d recipe..luckily its simple enough and i had all d ingredients to make the batter:

1 cup of flour
1 cup of milk
1 egg
1 tablespoon of butter - melted
1 tablespoon of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
1/2(half) teaspoon of salt
1/2(half) teaspoon of baking soda

tomorrow?..don't know yet but so far I'm still "safe" from any thought of food..ha ha..

(From Wikipedia : A food craving is an intense desire to consume a specific food, as opposed to general hunger. Food cravings are especially common in people following structured diet plans, and can be difficult to overcome.)
