Trekking in Tioman Island

I admit that normally I'm an indoor person, prefer the comfort of home or familiar surroundings or whenever I'm out, I prefer activities that are not too taxing.

But once in a while I do try to venture out of my comfort zone...and I believe this year I've done quite a lot of it..hehe..

So when before the trip, one of my friends suggested we include trekking..I was quite excited as I wanted to experience something different and may be do something "rough and tough"...

hahaha...little did I know then!

It started well...nice view walking through the golf course

We were led by a guide, Yazid who'd been with the resort for many many years and was quite knowledgeable.

A type of "Tea leaves"

The cotton tree "fruit" that when ripen, produces white fibres = cotton.

Demonstration on how to make soap bubbles by rubbing of some leaves :

After a "gentle" start, we went into the first phase of our trekking.

The old rubber tree.

Rattan tree.

Next photo was where we went into the second phase, a bit more challenging for me, luckily I'd taken a tree branch earlier to be used as walking stick.

Interestingly, we came across four types of chameleon, the species that are famed for their ability to change colour, used as camouflage.

Poisonous leaves, we were advised to stay clear of it

White termite mound

The more than 200 years old tree, the guide demonstrated making the distress call should the need arise, the echos can be heard many km away, and hopefully rescue team would be on their way soon after ..

Went into third phase (and it was really tough for someone who normally walked on flat surface! hehe..)...

We had to use ropes that were already placed there to climb up the rest of the way, it was slippery and I was really nervous and a bit scared..hehe..

mmmm, what we.....errr, I had to go through to see....(to be continued)

Each step is getting harder and harder, right?
I think I can't go through the third phase!

I would rather stay in the comfort of my home watching the tall coconut palms swaying in the breeze - romantic.

This sounds like a very interesting hike, even if it did get to be more strenuous as you went along. I look forward to learning about your destination.
