In the news..

KUALA LUMPUR: In a ceremony steeped in royal tradition, Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'azam Shah, 84, was installed as the 14th Yang di-Pertuan Agong today at the new, majestic Istana Negara at Jalan Duta, here. (NST Online)

The ceremony today marked two historical significance for the country as well as for Tuanku Abdul Halim.

This is the second time that His Majesty was installed as the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the first was as the Fifth Yang di-Pertuan Agong in 1970 at the age of 42.

Adding to the uniqueness of the installation ceremony this time around is Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak. When Tuanku Abdul Halim was installed as the Fifth Yang di-Pertuan Agong, the prime minister at that time was Najib's father, Tun Abdul Razak Hussein, the second prime minister of Malaysia.

TSUNAMI ALERT

Earthquake magnitude of 8.7 strikes Aceh
Tremors felt in Kuala Lumpur, Petaling Jaya and Penang.

JAKARTA, April 11, 2012 (AFP) - A massive earthquake struck off Indonesia's Sumatra island on Wednesday, US and Indonesian monitors reported, prompting a Pacific-wide tsunami alert.

The quake's magnitude was 8.7, according to a revised measurement from the US Geological Survey, and it struck 431 kilometres (268 miles) off the Indonesian city of Banda Aceh.

Malaysia issues tsunami alert after quake.

Malaysian authorities on Wednesday issued a tsunami alert for the country's western coastline and warned citizens to stay away from the shore following a massive earthquake in the Indian Ocean.

A possible repeat of 2004 tsunami?
I think people are more prepared this time
but disaster don't always comes in the same way,
it's always something new that will catch us off guard.

Immediately upon knowing the news I called up my family..asking them not to go near the beach, even thou they are on the east coast..anyway, I read somewhere that we should be alert at least on the next 48 hours.

But praying that nothing untoward will happen to anyone anywhere..

Books,

I got this info from wiki :-) :

Royal Attire, Muskat

The royal attire of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for the installation ceremony is the Muskat- the King’s Royal Dress. The origin of the Muskat can be traced to the ancient kingdom of Muscat, present day Oman. Originally the Muskat was worn by government officials of Kedah.

The Muskat was first worn in 1960, at the installation of the third Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Almarhum Tuanku Syed Putra ibni Almarhum Syed Hassan Jamalullail. It was the brainchild of the late Tunku Abdul Rahman Putra Al-haj, Malaysia’s first prime minister, who was a prince from the Kedah royal house.

The Muskat is made of black wool embroidered with gold threads, in the pattern of the hibiscus, Malaysia’s national flower. The dress is worn with headgear and embroided long pants, at ceremonies to mark the King’s installation, birthday, official visits to the states and during the opening of the Parliament sitting.

This is very interesting, especially the fact that he has been Yang two different times. I'm glad there was no tsunami as a result of the earthquake.
