Cats

Wanting to know Angie and the gang from "Cats-from-Sydney" (blog here) better? :-)

Article : 13 Things You Didn’t Know About Cats (here)

(from Essential Cat)

1. Nose-to-nose greetings between cats are unusual, as it puts both in a vulnerable position. However, cats who know each other well but have been apart for a while feel safe enough to do this to confirm visual recognition and gain information about how the other cat is, where he has been and what he has been doing.

2. Purring usually indicates contentment, however, a deep purr can also indicate pain. If you know your cat well you will be able to tell the difference in his demeanor.

3. Cats start to purr at one week old and can do so continually as they inhale and exhale.

4. Young cats purr in a monotone, while older ones do so in two to three resonant notes.

5. Scientist still do not know exactly how the purring sound is made, although some believe that it originates in the cardiovascular system rather than the throat.

6. Cats appear to retain their kitten vocal signals to communicate with their owners, but they use and adult repertoire of sound with other cats.

7. Like dogs, cats can also get sick or die from eating chocolate.

8. Cats like to nap rather than sleep but if relaxed enough to enter a deeper sleep, they produce the same brain wave patterns that we do when we dream.

9. Cats blink and narrow their eyes when they accidentally make eye contact. To make friends with an unfamiliar cat, blink and look away when you catch his eyes

10. A cat’s pulse is between 160-240 beats per minute, depending on the age of the cat (the younger he is, the faster the heartbeat.)

11. Cats cannot understand punishment as humans do, they must be praised and rewarded for desired behavior instead.

12. Giving your cat a strip of raw meat everyday to chew on will keep his gums and teeth in good condition. Suitable meats include poultry, rabbit, or beef that has been deboned.

13. If your cat appears to be able to tolerate heat very well this is because the ancestors of cats were originally desert-living animals.

******************

Found interesting facts online about Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon you) and cats...Allahu'alam.

******************

The Prophet Muhammad (s.a.w) was tender and kind towards cats.

Muezza was the Prophet Muhammad's (p.b.u.h) favorite cat. The most famous story about Muezza recounts how when the call to prayer was given, and as the Prophet (p.b.u.h) went to put on his robes, he found his cat sleeping on one of the sleeves, and instead of disturbing the cat, he(p.b.u.h) cut off the sleeve and let the cat sleep. When he returned, Muezza awoke and bowed down to the Prophet (p.b.u.h) and in return he stroked the cat three times.

It is also believed that when the Prophet (p.b.u.h)would give sermons within his household he would often hold Muezza in his lap.

Allah's Apostle said, "A woman was tortured and was put in Hell because of a cat which she had kept locked till it died of hunger." Allah's Apostle further said, "(Allah knows better) Allah said (to the woman), 'You neither fed it nor watered when you locked it up, nor did you set it free to eat the insects of the earth.' " Hadith - Bukhari 3:553, Narrated 'Abdullah bin 'Umar [Also in Muslim, Narrated Abu Huraira]

[The story of the women mentioned above is recited. It seems that the woman was scratched by the cat and to punish the cat she imprisoned it and failed to feed it. Her actions were frowned upon and she was duly punished.]

Abu Hurayrah, famous as a companion of the Prophet (saw) and a major narrator of his sayings. Was given the nickname Abu Hurayrah (literally father of Kittens) by the Prophet because he used to care for a small male cat. ("Cat" word comes from the Arabic word qit/Hirra but a tiny male cat is called hurayrah, or thus In Arabic, hirra means cat and hurayra means a kitten.)

"Those who are kind and considerate to Allah's creatures, Allah bestows His kindness and affection on them. Show kindness to the creatures on the earth so that Allah may be kind to you." Hadith - Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi

Down the memory lane : Kampung Hiliran

My weekends have been almost full (and hectic sometimes) since few months back, with priority given to the family..and that's why I was "found" again in K.T last weekend :-)

Last Sunday I was at Pasar Cabang Tiga buying some breakfast when one mak cik (auntie) who was selling the fried noodle asked me, "are you the sister of...(a name that I wasn't familiar with)?"

I looked at my nephew, Nazeem and replied to her..."err..I'm the daughter of..." to which Nazeem interrupted, "she knows Wan (grandma) la Che Na".

"oh..."

"so, which one are you,..haven't seen you before?", I was asked again.

"And you haven't visited your Tok's (grandparents) area for a long time have you?", she said.

"No I haven't..actually since they passed away a long time ago."

"You should"

"I know, I've been wanting to go there for a while..InsyaAllah I'll go there soon."

That evening I drove there, taking along my nephew and nieces where Cheqna's grandparents used to live, Kampung Hiliran :

Tok's and Tok Ki's house used to stand on this "empty" lot, opposite Tok Itam's house there.

And that's the water well where we used to take our bath etc..

(My nephew posted this photo in his album and his friend jokingly asked.."got (water) heater?"..haha..this modern kid. My nephew answered, yeah, the natural kind.., smart!)

Left over of the original tree.. (I was told by that 'mak cik' that the mango tree bore lots of fruits)

(The mango tree?)

But nowadays the "residents" of this land are :

This is the view that I could see from Tok's land now :

"Bukit Besar"

Budding photographers..most of the pictures taken that day were by them and Nazeem.

Thank you dears!

they are only 7 and 4 years old..and have the confidence to do it, having fun with it as well... :-)

Meanwhile, Cheqna was busy chatting with the auntie from Pasar, who found us whilst we were trying to figure out which piece of land was Tok's..hehe..

oh btw, the noodle was yummy, simple but delicious that I had a repeat,

- sharing my niece's portion!..hehe..

Malaysia Cup Final 2011.

I think I know about some EPL (*) teams but I haven't really follow the local football scene all these while, except for this past few years when it reached the final stages, then only if my home State team got to the final..hehe..

But this year I was "dragged" into it sooner, 'Terengganu' and 'T-Team' were both in the semi-finals..and b'cos during the second-leg of it I was in K.T, with my family rooting for them, I could not ignore it though I didn't sit in front of the TV set,

..sadly the 'T-Team' couldn't make an all Tganu teams to the final...next time insyaAllah.

For tomorrow's final between Terengganu and N.Sembilan, I will not watch it either at the Shah Alam Stadium or the home "stadium" [ :-) ]. I'd be too nervous..haha.

My family in K.T is more enthusiastic. I received these picture messages this afternoon..

Where's Cheqna's t-shirt?

Anyway, all the best..hope the game will be played fairly, good and entertaining.

(From website)

..and hoping that both teams' supporters/fans will show strong sense of support and behave well.

Cheap Flights

I watched this when someone posted in F.B...I guess many had(and many will be in future) fall for the cheap "tickets" offer.

I've received emails on promotions of cheap flights, but I'd only check them if I have the intention to travel...

I don't think I've been into a bad deal as them when I booked online,

(K.Terengganu airport for my home sweet home)

...and I can't imagine if I have to jump from the plane..hehehe..

Beauty as I see it..- last part of Fraser's Hill trip :-)

Along the way during our walk, sometimes we compared the photos that we'd taken and jokingly declared that ours were prettier than the others..hehe..

As the "newest member" of the DSLR club among us I couldn't do that..and anyway, my shifu was there..hahaha..

But of course we see beauty in everything, differently ~ "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder"...

Photography : field trip @ Fraser's Hill (Part 3)

I've always admired my good friend's ability to capture the hidden beauty in everything that she comes across..,

..and I could say that my interest in photography came from watching/looking through the many pictures that she has taken all over the places that she has gone to.

So when I had the chance to get some tips from her during the trip, I grabbed it..but I still have to read through the manual to understand those "apertures", "shutter speed", "lighting angles", etc, etc ..hehehe...

Thank you very much to my dear friend @ shifu (@ tour guide of the day.. :-) )

Still have a long way to go (she rejected many..haha), but here goes my attempts...,

Those photos beat my "normal" subject/object, i.e food...of which the latest one that gave my friends reason (and good laugh..hehe) to encourage me going out for more field trips was this :

"Cekodok" (flour fritters)

But of course I couldn't resist taking these photos whilst having lunch..hehe..
